Computational and Optical Methods for Improving Resolution and Signal Quality in Fluorescence Microscopy

چکیده
We present efficient algorithms for image restoration using Good’s roughness penalty. We assumed Gaussian or Poisson statistics for the noise and derived an algorithm for each case. Performance was tested using simulated three-dimensional imaging with a fluorescence confocal laser scanning microscope. Results were compared to those for algorithms that use Gaussian or entropy penalty terms, which we derived previously [J. Opt. Soc. Am. A 14, 1696–1706 (1997)]. The algorithms based on Good’s roughness yielded superior results. An example is given of the restoration of an image of a biological specimen.

Improving adaptive resolution of analog to digital converters using least squares mean method
This paper presents an adaptive digital resolution improvement method for extrapolating and recursive analog-to-digital converters (ADCs). The presented adaptively enhanced ADC (AE-ADC) digitally estimates the digital equivalent of the input signal by utilizing an adaptive digital filter (ADF). The least mean squares (LMS) algorithm also determines the coefficients of the ADF block. In this sch...

Scanning Near-Field Optical Microscopy (SNOM) is a member of scanning probe microscopes (SPMs) family which enables nanostructure investigation of the surfaces on a wide range of materials. In fact, SNOM combines the SPM technology to the optical microscopy and in this way provide a powerful tool to study nano-structures with very high spatial resolution. In this paper, a qualified overview of ...
متن کاملMulti-frame Super Resolution for Improving Vehicle Licence Plate Recognition
License plate recognition (LPR) by digital image processing, which is widely used in traffic monitor and control, is one of the most important goals in Intelligent Transportation System (ITS). In real ITS, the resolution of input images are not very high since technology challenges and cost of high resolution cameras. However, when the license plate image is taken at low resolution, the license...

متن کاملTransmissive liquid-crystal device for correcting primary coma aberration and astigmatism in biospecimen in two-photon excitation laser scanning microscopy.
All aberrations produced inside a biospecimen can degrade the quality of a three-dimensional image in two-photon excitation laser scanning microscopy. Previously, we developed a transmissive liquid-crystal device to correct spherical aberrations that improved the image quality of a fixed-mouse-brain slice treated with an optical clearing reagent. In this study, we developed a transmissive devic...
